Description
THIS IS A PRE-RECORDED WEBINAR (recorded April, 2022):
If you avoid writing treatment plans, you aren’t alone. In my survey of 500 psychotherapists, 63% reported they did not write treatment plans on all clients.
Yet treatment plans are required by insurance plans, ethics codes, and even many state laws. In fact, if you don’t write treatment plans, you (or your client) may be asked to pay money back to a health plan due to lack of necessary documentation for billing. Plus, a treatment plan can protect both you and your clients, ensuring all parties have a clear understanding of the goals and progress being made.
While this webinar may not be able to teach you to write a treatment plan in five minutes, it will give you the tools to help you write a brief treatment plan that fulfills the expectations of insurance and other oversight agencies. Topics include:
- How treatment plans are different than progress notes
- The bare essentials of a treatment plan
- How to choose goals — and which goals to avoid
- How objectives differ from goals
- “SMART goals” and “the Golden Thread”
- How to choose and describe interventions
- How to update plans — and how often you should
- How the Medical Necessity Criteria of health plans affect your goals
- Lots of sample treatment plans!
FREE DOWNLOADS: Best of all, all participants will be given:
- Downloadable sample treatment plans for anxiety and depression
- A blank treatment plan template
- A list of sample interventions
- A list of goals and objectives for children and teens
Disclaimer: While the webinar will discuss treatment planning in general, you will need to check with your agency/employer or the insurance plan you are working with to research their specific treatment plan requirements. The webinar may not specifically cover Medicare/Medicaid treatment plan requirements.

QUESTION: ‘HOW IS THIS DIFFERENT THAN A COURSE YOU HAVE BEEN TEACHING, “How to Write 5 Minute Treatment Plans?”
ANSWER: There really is no difference in content. I just re-recorded the webinar (April 2022), and felt I should update the title to be a little more realistic. 🙂
