Description
“Telehealth: Law & Ethics, Insurance, and Technology Update”
While aimed at a nationwide audience, this pre-recorded webinar fulfills the new California Board of Behavioral Sciences mandate for 3 hours of telehealth training which went into effect July 1, 2023. If you did not complete a minimum 3-hour telehealth course as part of your graduate degree, you’ll need to take a course like this before your next license renewal – even if you don’t provide telehealth! CE details are below.
We’ve been doing telehealth for years – so why do we need this training? Most of us didn’t have the time to get training back when we were forced online back then. And there are some very important differences when working via video or phone. Plus, laws and technologies are changing all the time.
This program is aimed at mental health practitioners nationwide, covering best practices for all therapists, while also covering California-specific laws. You’ll get specific guidance on the important legal requirements and practical considerations for providing telehealth that you may not be aware of. Topics include:
- Common myths about seeing clients in another state
- Telehealth informed consent: do you need it?
- How to assess a client’s appropriateness for telehealth
- 4 things your licensing board may require at the start of treatment
- 3 things you may need to document at each telehealth session
- Insurance coverage and coding issues
- Creating safety plans for telehealth clients
- Email and texting with clients
- What you need to know about HIPAA compliance and confidentiality
Plus: You’ll get links to helpful handouts and resources, including
- HIPAA compliance checklist
- “Checking Coverage: 13 Essential Questions” handout
- “What to Ask the Health Plan When Giving Up Your Office or Practicing Across State Lines” handout
EASY TO VIEW: The webinar takes no technological know-how to watch — after purchase you will immediately be sent a link. With one easy click you can watch it on your computer or smartphone at your convenience. You can stop and restart, as needed.
CEs: PLEASE READ CAREFULLY! While CEs are included with each ticket, credits are guaranteed only for CALIFORNIA LCSWs, LMFTs, LPCCs or LEPs. The course can be used to satisfy the new CA BBS telehealth training requirement for all licensees and applicants effective July 1, 2023, even if they don’t do telehealth. ONLY 2.5 hours may be credited toward the 6 Legal and Ethical hours required in a licensure renewal cycle; however, all 3 hours may be counted toward the 36 hours of CEs required for license renewals. CE certificates will arrive within ONE WEEK of taking the post-test. Other licensees should check with their licensing board for credit. Psychologists are not eligible for CE credit. However, we hope you will take the course just for the great content! For more information, see the CE section in the Q&A section below.
COST: $55 (INCLUDES 3 CEs!)
